A Lovecraftian Roguelite RPG + Randon Lvls & Random Monsters! – Source of Madness –
Source of Madness is an Intense, Immersive, Lovecraftian Sidescrolling Action Roguelite RPG with both Procedural Generation of the lvls, and Procedurally Generated Monsters!
Wow!
Procedurally Generated Monsters?!
Yep!
In addition to procedural, random lvls, helping to insure that the lvls will always feel fresh, Source of Madness has monsters forged of procedural generation as well, resulting in some truly alien and Lovecraftian entities, all tentacles, claws, and jaws; creepy, and fun to blast apart!
So, Random Maps, random Monsters, and a random World!
EmBrAcE The ChAoS! So fun!
Dark Magic, Absent Mana!
That’s right; you have no conventional mana needs holding you back here!
Thou art a dark Mage!
Thou simply need activate the dark ring or device, and use the spell, or maybe charge it up for an even bigger boom!
Potentially limitless POWER!
There are many different powers to find, to blasting out magical fire, lightning, magic missiles, creating and hurling giant boulders, to summoning magical totem like constructs to aid you for a time; waves of blood are also on the table, so if you want to get your blood mage on, you are in luck!
Meta Progression:
As a Roguelite, Source of Madness has significant Meta Progression able to be amassed between runs.
There is a gigantic tree, fed by collected blood on the HUB area wall; it’s so awesome that the meta progression is physically present in the world, literally pressed into the starting HUB area wall; so cool!
The unlocks are good, like new classes after you have found their altars, new ring types that can drop; force push or spider rings; fun stuff like that.
Additionally, you can unlock an additional dash, and better healing, making Source of Madness firmly a Roguelite due to the potency and power of its meta progression.
There is also some kind of white orb that is used as well; souls? How mysterious!
Controller Support is present, and good, while good old Mouse and keyboard is present as well.
I will say that the dashing does NOT work well with the mouse and keyboard, as the game does not seem to properly recognize the mouse movements indicating the intended dashing direction, which makes the dashing much less useful.
Due to the above, the game feels much better to play using a gamepad; so that is what I used in the above video.
Split screen PvP is present as well in its own game mode, in case that is something that interests you.
Note: This is an Early look at Source of Madness so any bugs or other oddness is not representative of the final product.
Still, Source of Madness is a fun Intense, Immersive, Lovecraftian Sidescrolling Action Roguelite RPG with both Procedural Generation lvls, and Procedurally Generated Monsters, and is easily well worth a wishlist and a watch.
