As someone who relishes the digital escapism of a well-realized game world, it's hard not to fall in love with A Plague Tale: Innocence's exceptional, almost photorealistic representation of medieval France. The stealth-based gameplay is a bit tedious, but a surprisingly affecting storyline combined with solid pacing and those lavishly detailed environments make for an engrossing overall experience. Given that the current AAA scene is dominated by shapeless open world chore simulators, it's oddly refreshing to experience a tightly scripted third-person singleplayer adventure again (let's party like it's 2006, right?).
