Action Half-Life | Bloody Pizza: Vendetta | No Failure Run
Action Half-Life is a bit of a tricky thing to play in SP maps. Granted, it's probably not actually designed to be played in SP, being touted constantly as an MP thing. Very possible that "SP" was quickly thrown together for testing purposes, with it being sheer luck that I could play it the way I do. I suppose I should be glad that I don't need to wirejam too much.
The issues starts off simple, you're given all of the weapons when starting any SP maps or reloading a save. All balance out the window. Going through map transitions is fine, so I can play with mapsets, but I'm actually forced to NFR with AHL specifically. Why, one might ask? Because saving/loading respawns me to the initial spawn point of the map. All enemies and triggers kept intact.
Naturally, it instantly breaks with any mapsets with esoteric spawn points or if they don't have any to begin with (sometimes maps after the first one don't have spawnpoints for reasons beyond my comprehension). Not just that, it also breaks runs that have me halfway through a map past the point of no return. Guess what happens when I save and then load. Softlocks.
Still though, despite the issues, it's not too bad of a gameplay mod if you can deal with all the above. Lots of unique features that makes for a neat if a bit scruffy bow of a run. I could talk about Bloody Pizza: Vendetta as well, but I already did a whole essay about it in the mod page for the Remod, so I won't repeat myself here. Let's just say that the modmix went okay, so long as you do it all in one go like I did here.
