This is a clear case of Stockholm Syndrome. Those poor insect folk are trying to free Tina from the abusive clutches of that wife beater Master Higgins. See the way she cheers for him after being rescued only to be dragged by her hair and forced into an awkward position on the beach in the next scene.
I feel sympathy for the Centipede and Tsetse fly that....Master Higgins machine gunned down with amazing axe skills. They were helping her get clean from the hallucinogenic frog drugs he pushed on her to see imaginary white rabbits, stoned fish, bouncing octopi, parading bears, and jacked up penguins.
I'm also sure Higgins wasn't too concerned about Tina in the first place, she was just one in a bevy of hoes in his stable. He didn't take the direct route from his home island to Volcano Island. No, he went the long way, passing through seven other islands to wreck his havoc on the friendly animal citizens; wrangling and capturing dinosaurs for his sick amusement.
Higgins, you are a monster...
In spite of Master Higgins, this game is a blast to play. I beat it without using a continue and it's pretty much the abridged version of Adventure Island II for Nintendo. Plays just like any other game in the series. Anyone who know the controls will also know the amount of give you need to calculate into your jumps since Master Higgins apparently likes to tap dance his way through life.
One of the highlights of the series is the music and this game does exceptionally well in terms of fidelity. If you played this on anything other than the original '89 model of the Gameboy (which suffered from a hertz lag issue) you were treated to a very true to form version of all the NES classics. Some slowdown was present in a few spots and I did happen across a glitch where my axes would go through the enemy when slowed down, instead of killing them.
The Adventure Island series is one I really love and have played all titles with the exception of the Turbo Graphix and Wii versions with varying degrees of success. The Gameboy versions are all fairly easy and won't tax the common gamer very much.
