Aliens Eradication | Colonist | No Failure Runs | Part 5
It's amusing. For a good while I thought something like this would be a bit easier on the ol' nerves compared to HDest. Boy, was I wrong. This map went on for a full hour before I could manage to conquer it. Not only that, but things like facehuggers and various other xeno threats pretty much guaranteed that one mistake is all it takes to erase all that to dust. Some break, huh? Anyways, my HDD couldn't take the recording, so it's split into two parts.
I find it interesting that the ally colonists you often meet in AE seems to work better as stationary turrets than a moving companion. Less likely to put themselves in easily smiteable situations and actually coordinate an effective firing squad. Had I dragged the colonists out to the area where all the xeno was after that hive section, it would have been certain doom for them. It was also fortunate that they wield the superb pistol, even in the original version they could kick butt whenever I put them in a line. Almost makes you wonder how the entire colony got overwhelmed.
Oh, yeah. I also remembered that I got "softlocked" here once. The vent covers require some very silly ways to open (shoot the bottom middle bit with a tracer weapon, shooting anywhere else or using a non-tracer weapon doesn't work), even with explosives (not detonate near the vent cover, you have to throw an active explosive THROUGH the vent cover) unless you have the powerloader which was really the only way I know that makes sense, and due to my lack of knowledge on opening the vents with those stupid ways back then I pretty much got stuck here, since there's no powerloader anywhere close and explosives were not exactly a choice in the matter. Pretty much becomes one of the many reasons why I got the knife in, so I could break the vents in a way that feels organic and not beyond thunderdumb.
