Aliens Eradication | Colonist | No Failure Runs | Part 6
I find it great that you can do more than just being forced in an arena and have to confront the bosses arbitrarily in this mod. Brings me back to the days of Tomb Raider 1 where you could either exterminate the T-Rex or dodge and weave your way through the Lost Valley evading the dino's attacks. In this one, I played with the idea of not even giving the Queen any chance to gobsmack me in one swift decisive move, which might have something to do with the fact that I'm running an NFR and giving her a centimeter would risk me losing a full hour run right then and there. A very heartbreaking stop if it did happen. Maximum cheese at play, basically. Expect every Queen encounter later on to have cheese in some way. Her spits are still dangerous though. I will admit, I'm not good at predicting where those things could go to. But hey, atleast I got everyone there safe and sound mostly. I'm sure once again that had I have them on follow mode, they would certainly perish under the might of the ambush.
The last bit doesn't have much happening, if you're wondering, aside from a surprise xeno or two. It's the ol' method of mine to clear out the entire map first before looking in every nook and cranny for supplies to rearm myself, ensuring higher chance of success in later combat encounters. It's not engaging gameplay to some but I absolutely love being able to do stuff like this so I won't have to suffer unnecessarily later on, remembering or marking caches in the automap so I could return to them immediately, testing my memory as well as attentiveness. Full resource management at play. I suppose if there's a nitpick for this bit, it'd be the point of no return at the start there before hopping down to the alien hive. Most of the other maps allows you to explore from the exit all the way to the start, and there were most certainly supplies in the beginning I could've returned to. Though I'm not too mad about it, since the rest of the map is explorable just fine.
