Happy Halloween, my five loyal viewers! To celebrate the occasion, here's a classic for you. Aliens Vs Predator Classic 2000, that is! DSOAL has problems where it doesn't play Alien or Predator sound effects. Fortunately, this is not running with the DSOAL wrapper, but rather a little-known source port called AvPx. This source port adds in OpenAL support for native HRTF and EAX. Just replace the included OpenAL32.dll with OpenAL Soft 1.19.1 and you're good to go! Yes, that's right: you need an older version for this to run. If you use OpenAL Soft 1.20.0 or later, the game stutters constantly and will eventuall crash.
The audio in AvP 2000 is alright. It's good enough for you to hear where everything is, but it's not perfect. The main issue is the fact that audio is inverted so sounds above you will sound below you and vice-versa. This has been a problem in other games, but it's worse here than ever because the Xenomorphs move VERY quickly, so moments like 11:46 can actually become very disorientating. I wonder if it's possible to get in contact with the source port maker to fix this? The port hasn't been updated since 2015, but anything is possible. Elevation also does not track with camera movements.
I love how the shitty pistol makes the Dirty Harry .44 magnum sound effect.
