AMAZING BREAK 8 Bit Remix - Terra Formars
this is one of those songs that hits like a train, dude. it's so good. complete balls-to-the-walls insane from front to back.
i honestly don't remember a lot of specific moments in terra formars more than i do just remember appreciating the panel composition, creative abilities, and surprisingly fun storylines. i've always really appreciated when a manga utilizes good page turns and has solid panel composition. i remember some of the page turns being fucking insane, really making the terraformars feel like imposing figures when it just abruptly cuts to them having killed someone in an instant. honestly, my favorite page turn in any manga is probably the two-page-spread of raoh's death in fist of the north star. been years since i've re-read hnk but man, whereas the death scenes in terra formars work because how abrupt the less important ones just happen, the ones in north star have so much fuckin' weight and both of the above are generally just executed super damn well.
i think, in one of my aot vids, i had talked previously about the general concept of humans facing terrifying forces of nature being done really fucking well in other series, and i was basically just referring to terra formars. apparently the anime isn't as good as the manga but frankly i don't fucking care because i never watched the anime - spent my years being a manga purist reading everything from shitty scans and translations online to the occasional print release of something that wasn't overrated slop for so much shit and i don't see why i had ever or would ever consider watching inferior adaptations instead. i dunno, i don't think there are really any examples of an adaptation outdoing the manga by the metric of sheer visual appeal and composition - though, the latter is inherent to the medium of ching chong comic books and can't really be replicated in the same way in television. i dunno, i think that a story can be elevated by a good soundtrack (again, this fuckin' song is so good) but then it begins to serve a different purpose. you pickin' up what i'm putting down? yeah, y'know. i've heard that the adaptation of ashita no joe is better than the manga but honestly, again, i don't really buy it because of how good the composition in joe was.
i dunno, maybe i'm just a fuckin' elitist who likes the source material like a little hipster bitch. like, i don't like film or tv adaptations of books, either. i watched some of the adaptations of mccarthy's novels and i didn't really care for them - it all looked cooler in my head - and child of god i legit couldn't bother watching in full despite really liking the book. it's more of an absurdist (and sometimes just comedic) story than anything else and i don't think that the movie got that. also, again, the value in a book is different from the value in a film. i never read mccarthy for fantastic stories, i read his stuff for stellar prose and mastery of the language, and that gets lost when adapted to a simple film - makes you appreciate the natural surroundings less. it's why people say that the blood meridian movie (which might not be happening anymore) should be five hours with a solid hour and a half or so dedicated to the gang just traveling through mountains 'n plains 'n more barren lands. even then, though, that doesn't replace the intrinsic value of the source material's language.
what the fuck was i talking about before? terra formars? it's good, yeah.
next week today is my real, actual birthday. i plan on staying home and working on shit because that's what i find the most fun. i'll be uploading some originals for the vid, too, so if you like this then maybe you'll like my other shit. or maybe you won't, i dunno, i'm not your dad.
that's the show for today. i'm fuckin' hungry. made bagels with greek yogurt and self-rising flour last week and those were pretty good. idk if i have enough flour left over to make some more but i've totally got greek yogurt sitting around.
anyways
have a wonderful day, gentlemen. god bless.
