A new AMD patent has surfaced today, patenting gaming super resolution. AMD's FSR is highly anticipated, as AMD will finally have their own answer to Nvidia's DLSS upsampling technology. This new patent gives some potential insight into how AMD's FidelityFX Super Resolution works and shows that AMD's FSR upsampling software seems to use a DLSS like machine learning technology. With ray tracing becoming more and more prevalent across both PC and next gen consoles, DLSS / upsampling is becoming a necessity.
But with Nvidia supporting DLSS and DLSS 2 across RTX 20 and RTX 30, could we possibly see AMD support FSR on RDNA 1 GPUs, as well as the currenct Radeon RX 6000 RDNA 2 graphics cards? Of course, we should await official confirmation from AMD, but their older cards supporting Super Resolution could be hugely important.
We also have an update for Nvidia's RTX 30 LHR graphics cards, as it does seem that the Founder's Edition cards will not be getting the cryptocurrency mining limitations. The FE cards have definitely been hit hardest by the current shortages, so this could mean a surge of miners trying to get a hold of the last few non Lite Hash Rate RTX 30 Ampere GPUs.
