Today, we pit the RX 6700 XT RDNA 2 GPU against the RX 5700 XT RDNA 1 GPU. We put the two Radeon graphics cards through a series of IPC and power efficiency benchmark tests, to truly analyse the incredible achievement AMD had in the RDNA 2 architecture. One of RDNA 2's biggest features is of course infinity cache, but it came with a ton of hardware improvements that go beyond just raw TFLOPS or clock speed.
RDNA 1 / Navi was a huge improvement over that of GCN, but RDNA 2 was a massive improvement was a massive improvement over that, which means that the rest of AMD's RDNA roadmap should be of great interest. With RDNA 2 powering the PS5 and Xbox Series X next gen consoles, these improvements in efficiency are hugely important.
So, how much of a difference will we see in RX 5700 XT and RX 6700 XT power efficiency and IPC benchmarking? RDNA 1 vs RDNA 2 was a huge improvement in performance per watt, specs, performance, and of course feature sets like ray tracing, mesh shaders and variable rate shading.
