An Action RPG Hades like that Embraces Color! – Lost in Random The Eternal Die Demo –
Lost in Random The Eternal Die is an Isometric Action RPG Roguelite, a fun Hades like with connected random dungeon levels.
Think like Hades, with all the fast attacks, quick dash, and fun abilities.
Plus, you throw a freakin huge die around!
Lost in Random understands fast and fun combat.
Lost in Random Is a Hades Like?
In many ways yes
Hades is easily the strongest gameplay influence I see on Lost in Random.
As mentioned above, Lost in Random has a fast, Stamina less combat system, very focused on delivering rapid, staggering attacks, then dashing away from the telegraphed hostile counter attack.
In addition to the excellent voice work here, for which Hades is also well-known, Lost in Random also
has the Procedural Generation fueled random room connections like in Hades, except here, the rooms are connected in one dungeon layout, with no black loading screens in between the next battle, and no always forward, no backtracking prohibition, resulting in a much less linear, more dungeon crawler feel.
This also means that you can go over and hit the shops later on the floor if you want, resulting in less risk of missing out on an upgrade: if the funds are a bit tight at the moment, as you can just come back later; a nice option.
Lost in Random has the random blessings / currency rewards in rooms, with the blessing being a pick 1 of 3, though the blessings are different here, as you can color match the blessings on a grid to unlock attribute increases for the run; very creative and fun.
Unlike Hades, the smash-able pots here sometimes have gold and heals in them; as barring an unlock / blessing, pots in Hades are empty.
Also, unlike Hades, the rooms Lost in Random are both random, and mysterious: they do not tell you ahead of time of what they award here, unlike the currency rooms or god blessing in Hades.
Embrace The Color:
I found the color matching blessing system of Lost in Random very interesting, so I wish to draw some attention to it here.
So, after you clear a room full of foes, you get your reward, like in Hades.
Unlike in Hades, where you just stack the blessings along the left hand side of the screen and call it a day, in Lost in Random, they are actively used to further shape your character.
By lining up the matching colors of the blessings on your inventory grid, and many have multiple colors, you can unlock different bonuses for the run.
Match 3 of a color below to grant its bonus.
Red: Weapon power
Yellow: Card power
Blue: Die power
Purple: Conjurations
Green: Luck, I got 3% luck after matching 3 green
Controller Support is present, and good, and felt great, while good old Mouse and Keyboard support is also good and present, in case that is your preference.
I found the gameplay just felt much better with a gamepad here, so that is mostly what I used above.
Meta Progression:
When you die, you go to the HUB area
Pip dust is the meta currency here, used to unlock:
More starting health, or more max health granted by the Shard of Vitality
10% more damage to regulars, or to elites
More energy shard from foes, or die hits grant energy shards
Each of the 3 above has an alt; you can only have 1 of each active at once.
Cinder is also present, used to boost weapon damage.
Due to the all the above stacking meta progression, and the punishing nature and high difficulty of the demo bosses, I consider Lost in Random The Eternal Die firmly a roguelite, as most players will very likely need substantial meta progression to defeat that paired boss at the end.
Note: This is an early look at the demo for Lost in Random The Eternal Die so any bugs or other oddness is not representative of the final product.
Still, Lost in Random The Eternal Die is a fun Isometric Action RPG Roguelite, a Hades like with connected random dungeon levels, and is easily worth a wishlist and a watch.
