12Crowned In Steel is an Indie, Hack and Slash action game that feels like a graphically updated take on a
Blade of Darkness, mixed with Conan! Oh ya!
Cleave through your foes with extreme brutality, mixing up your strikes to combo them together, and become stronger and stronger as you cut them down!
Brutal Combat:
Ya, dismemberment of your foes in battle is in, so finishing your foes feels nice.
You have your attack, your parry, a sprint, and your dodge, which by default dashes you back, which is very handy, as barrel-rolling into your opponent’s blade is not great!
There is no apparent weapon durability, and the different weapons you find have different stamina costs per swing, and different damage.
Like in Skyrim, the Movement keys determine the attack swing:
Forward + attack: the default swing
Back + Attack: low swing
Left + Swing: type 5 ‘cut’ for the right
Right + Swing: backhand swing
You can chain strikes together by doing different strikes after the last.
You can hold down block with the shield, but remember, your foes can cut it apart, leaving you alone with your blade.
Remember: like in Blade of Darkness, there is a Stamina System here.
At first, it seems that stamina is only drained by attacking, but that is only out of combat.
In combat against a foe, most every action you take drains your stamina, even movement, adding a real cost to every action you take, making it all feel more meaningful.
Every movement in combat has a cost here, so don’t overexpose yourself by button mashing; know when to back off for a bit to recover some stamina, and try to keep those combos flying.
Controller Support is present, and good, as is good old mouse and keyboard.
I went mostly with the mouse and keyboard here, as the keybinds did not seem to save on the gamepad, but it did feel great beyond that early demo issue.
Note: This is an early look at the demo for Crowned In Steel so any bugs or other oddness is not representative of the final product.
Still, Crowned In Steel is a fun Indie, Hack and Slash action game that feels like a graphically updated take on a Blade of Darkness, mixed with Conan! Oh ya!
If you like gritty, purely action focused combat, Crowned In Steel is well worth a wishlist and a watch.
