In this video we pay a visit to A.B. Games in Lübeck Germany to see what sort of PAL games we can bring back home to the USA.

In February 2018 I had the opportunity to visit Germany on a business trip. I had initially planned on visiting a Retro Video Game Store called 2nd Reality just outside of Hamburg. To my dismay I found out that this store closed perminantly 2 days before I arrived. I was bummed out but upon further investigation I found there was another option.

About 45-minutes north of Ahrensberg, where I was staying, is the town of Lübeck, an absolutely amazing city. Just as you get into the town there is a retro games store called A.B. Games and it was, just, wow. From top-to-bottom it is jam-packed full of gaming goodness. Whether you love modern or retro games A.B. Games has something for you.

When we got to the store, I went with 2 co-workers, I was imeadiately drooling. We were also asked to not take photos. Crud. Well I went into a second room where I discovered the motherlode of PAL games for the NES, Super NES, N64, Gamecube, Master System, Megadrive, PSP, Game Gear, Sega CD, just a plethoria of amazing retro gaming. Some other cool things I found were things like not one but 2 Atari Jaguar systems, in the box! They also had boxed versions of the Resident Evil Gamecube, Atari consoles and more. It was beyond amazing.

The owner actually approached me as I was looking and said we could take photos and videos, just don’t get too close to items. I appreciated this and began my filming, which you see here. I also was taken upstairs to nirvana, a secret stash of product that the general public doesn’t get to see. Here they showed me shelves upon shelves of old systems from Sega, Nintendo, Atari and others. I almost bought a PAL SNES, but in the end I just left with 3 SNES and 2 NES games.

What I got:
NES:
Yoshi and Mario
I believe this is the PAL version of the game we know as “Yoshi”. It’s a simple puzzle game which I own for the Famicom but am thrilled to have an NES Version that also has the box.

Darkwing Duck:
Let’s. Get. Dangerous! One of my favorite cartoons is also one of the best NES games of all time, Darkwing Duck from Capcom was high on my lust list. I’ve seen them go for a lot of money so finding one for 25 Euros was a nice find.

SNES:
Yoshi’s Island
So I bought this for the Japanese Famicom and really have loved it. It is an amazing game and I wish I would have gotten it back in the day. Now I have the PAL version and look forward to completing this game.

Star Wing (Star Fox):
This completes my collection for Star Fox as I have the US, Japanese and now PAL Versions. The fact that it is Star Wing and not Star Fox makes it extra special, and even though the box is in rough shape the label is super crispy!

Earthworm Jim:
Was this one ever in doubt? I love EWJ and this was the first game I saw when I got in the store and knew it was coming home with me. No box on this one but an amazing condition game. This one is super GROOVY!
