In this video we unbox and explore the Hyperkin Supa Retron HD 16-bit Super Nintendo and Super Famicom Clone System.

Hyperkin has been making clone systems for quite some time, dating back to the original Retron1, through to the Retron5, Supa Boy and Supa Retron. Much like other manufacturers Hyperkin has updated their Supa Retron to include an HDMI output and 720P video. This should be a better system than before, at least in-terms of audio and video quality.

From the box, which Amazon delayed several times, the Supa Retron HD includes everything you'll need to play your favorite 16-bit Nintendo cartridges. Two controllers are included right off the bat, making it easy for 2-player action from the get-go. Power is provided by a Micro USB cable (THANK YOU!!!) and a 5v/1A output included power supply. To connect to your TV both an HDMI and AV cables are included. The parts and accessories are Hyperkin's typical quality.

The system does have some heft to it. While smaller than the original systems it seeks to replicate id doesn't feel light, cheap or insignificant. The console itself combines the purple from the SNES with the Power/Eject/Reset configuration from the Super Famicom. I think a lot of people are going to love this feature as the Super Famicom is generally considered to be the more attractive of the two consoles.

If playing imports are your thing the Supa Retron HD does feature an NTSC/PAL switch to toggle between the two for you. Cartridge-wise SNES and Super Famicom games fit, although the fit on the "Pin Perfect" connector is more than a little tight. I tested SNES, SFC, Retro-bit Multi-Carts and a Super Game Boy and, while Joe & Mac was a bit of challenge to connect, they all fit well.

At $69.99 the Supa Retron HD needs to perform to topple the Gamerz Tek 16-bit HD as my HDMI SNES Clone of choice as it is $20 more expensive. For comparison the Retro-bit Super Retro Trio +, which plays NES, SNES & Genesis games, can be had for only $10, and that system plays 2 additional consoles' games!
