One of my favorite gaming systems of all-time is the Nintendo Gamecube. One problem with the Gamecube, however, is the poor video quality from the stock AV cables. . A company called EON Gaming has just released a new adapter to solve ALL our video needs with the Gamecube with their GCHD HDMI adapter. Unlike other solutions its completely plug-&-play without needing and hardware modifications.

The adapter features two ports, one port plugs into the Digital AV output while the other connects to the Analog AV output. This provides an amazingly stable connection that doesn’t wiggle around once installed. The HDMI port is on the side to reduce the load on the connector ports while the back of the adapter has a pairing button which allows you to program any TV remote to operate the on-board menu.

There was one game I HAD to play first and that was Rogue Squadron II, one of if not the first Gamecube game I ever owned.
Strafing across the surface of the Death Star never looked so good on the Gamecube. Yavin IV in orbit, the Y-Wings and towers, even the trench run was just amazing and jaw dropping. I could not have picked a better game for a first impression as this was truly amazing. I put several other games through the NTSC US system, from Ikaruga to F-Zero GX and was equally amazed with each of these titles. The sound, the visuals, the details were all amazing. After a few hours it was time to try out the Spice Orange Japanese Gamecube.

I only have one Japanese title at the present time, Luigi’s Mansion. It looked so amazingly good from the title screen to the first encounter with the good Professor. The GCHD made everything look better, I’d say as good or better than most Wii titles and potentially rivaling some Wii U titles. Even using the Gameboy Player the games were all the best I had ever seen them through the Gamecube.

Why it RoX?

- Truly plug-&-play with no hardware modding required
- Menu options easily accessible via TV IR remote
- Stunningly good visuals and audio quality
- Extremely well put together and constructed
- No noticeable lag or latency introduced

What could be improved?

- At $149.99 this ain’t cheap
- You really need to shove it into both ports which may worry some

Should you buy one?

If you’re a Gamecube aficionado and you demand the best possible video quality from your systems then this is a must-own. The visual quality is amazing, the best I have ever seen from a Gamecube and the audio is great as well. It really was jaw dropping to see how gorgeous Gamecube games can be on hardware that is 17-years old. I’m not going to lie, $150 for one HDMI adapter for one system is a healthy investment. If you’re serious about your Gamecube visuals and you want an amazing HDMI experience you really should pick up one of these GCHD adapters from EON Gaming, you won’t regret it. You just might regret not doing it sooner.
