App-Test: Tiny Thief (iOS / Android)
Tiny Thief is the new title under the label Rovio stars, the brand that Rovio launched to publish titles of other emerging developers. Tiny Thief has been developed by 5 Ants and can be downloaded for € 2.69 as a universal app for iPod Touch, iPhone and iPad. An Android version can be downloaded at the same price from Google Play.
In Tiny Thief you take the role of a small masterthief and you have to finish 25 levels. In each level you can get a maximum rating of three stars. Each star represents one of three objects, which you have to steal. The first star is the most obvious object in each level. The second star is a secret object that you need to discover in each level. The third object isn't an object at all. Furthermore it is a little squirrel hiding somewhere in the levels and you have to find it.
A real master thief should of course remain unnoticed, so you should only move when the guards, knights and other people can't see you. Additionaly you can hide in barrels, climb ladders, collect items, cut ropes and manipulate other objects. The controls of the game are always totally simple because when you step next to an item, a small icon appears right beside it and you just have to tap on it. The same goes for moving your character on the screen: Just tap the place where you want to go. Basically you simple have to draw logical conclusions, what objects could be of use. Keep attention to your timing, then go to the objects and use them.
My conclusion:
Tiny Thief is no triple-A title but still a great game and next to Deus Ex: The Fall the highlight of the week. Tiny Thief is an incredibly charming game with nice graphics. The game is a bit short and especially in the early levels very easy. A major strength of the game are the many funny animations, for example the wondering guards. The ones of you who are looking for an absolutely nicely done puzzle title for all ages with some little story, this is the game for you! -
