Bloodstroke has been developed by Tiger Hill Entertainment, the company of John Woo. The legendary director is famous for movies such as Mission Impossible II and Face Off. John Woo is also resposnible for the script of Bloodstroke. In the iOS app you play the female bodyguard May Lee. May Lee has to ensure the security of Dr. Rajesh Koorse. You should get used to the sight of the doctor, because you have to protect him the whole game.
Bloodstroke is divided into levels. Your task is to bring the good doctor to the end of each level. In some levels you will not have to reach the level end, you just have to survive a certain number of waves of attacking enemies. In any case, you should especially pay attention to the health of the doctor, because you are invulnerable - the doctor isn't. So you should always run a little ahead of the doctor, to attract the attention of the enemies. You can eliminate the enemies with fireguns from the distance or in a close combat with a sword. Via Buttons on the right side of the screen you can fire your weapons or throw grenades. If you run through the enemies, your female hero will automatically use her sword to kill the enemies. You control your character with a virtual analog stick on the left side of the screen. You gain money as you progress through the game. With that money you can buy new equipment and upgrades between the missions. For example: In the shop you can buy new weapons like a shotgun, but you can also upgrade the doctor with more energy. A special feature of Bloodstroke is - without a doubt - the style of the game because the graphics are kept in black and white only. With one exception: the blood glows in the richest red tones possible and stands out clearly from the environment and gives the game an artistic touch.
My conclusion:
Bloodstroke has its highlights, no doubt. The action-title is straightforward, easy to control and the graphics interesting. For a while you have a lot of fun with Bloodstroke, because what could be better than controlling a female terminator in an appealing action-title. Unfortunately the appeal of John Woo's mobile debut evaporates quickly, because Bloodstroke lacks variety. The missions are always the same. Protect the doctor, eliminate the enemies. In addition the nice story is only presented with comic-cutscenes with textboxes, there is no voice-acting to improve the atmosphere. All in all I have been a bit dissapointed with the game. Maybe you have more fun with the € 2.69 expensive app. Please write your opinion into the comments. -
