Aris Multimedia Entertainment, a Softkey Company after 1994, seems mainly to have sold CD-ROMs containing limited-license photos and video (Video Cube is a notable exception). I found their catalog to be fairly high-quality for the time.

The discs would play short movies and 24-bit color photos at high resolution (640x480) accompanied by original music.

The ones I've found are hybrid discs for Windows and Mac. Win versions are based on Asymetrix ToolBook, while the Mac versions run in a completely separate HyperCard stack. Maybe I'll record a playthrough at some point.

Here are the videos from their software catalog (transcoded from MPEG-1). I found this on the "Space Odyssey" disc, which contains images from NASA missions up to that point in time.

0:00 Video Cube: Space
0:27 New York, NY
0:45 Americana
1:07 Animal Kingdom
1:29 Deep Voyage
2:05 Tropical Rainforest
2:11 Worldview

* WinTutor 3.1 and Wild Places are also in the catalog, but do not have accompanying videos.
