This is a demonstration of Arx Fatalis with spatialized sound using OpenAL Soft's HRTF (IRC_1037 tables). The original game used DirectSound3D, but the modern source port Arx Libertatis upgrades to OpenAL Soft with native support for HRTF and EFX. The quality of the 3D positional audio is just fantastic. It's even more accurate and immersive than the NewDark engine's implementation. Some of the tunnels get a bit silent, but this footage takes place entirely in populated areas. Unfortunately, only one neutral EAX preset gets defined for the entire game world. Arkane Studios most likely ran out of time before they could make full use of EAX effects.
