This is a demonstration of MDK 2 with EAX and OpenAL Soft's HRTF through DSOAL. Surprisingly, the second game actually has much worse binaural audio than the first game's rare Aureal A3D patch. No longer can you weave in and out of enemy fire with full spatial awareness of where each of the enemies are in relation to you. Worse yet is the EAX reverb, which is completely deafening and drowns out all the sound especially when fans or machinery are involved. I considered re-recording this without EAX for better spatialized audio, but then I realized that the EAX fetishists wouldn't stop bothering me about it. The reverb is just as loud with actual hardware, by the way.

Unfortunately, like the Rayman 2 demonstration this is more of a proof-of-concept video. At the moment, DSOAL is partially broken in MDK2 because it immediately runs out of buffers in Max's stages, then crashes. I have no idea why DSOAL would work in Kurt's stages but not the other two types. It's a huge shame, too, as MDK 2 sounds much, much worse with CMSS-3D than OpenAL Soft's HRTF. I sent an error log to kcat a few weeks ago, so hopefully this can be fixed in the future.

On a side note, I'm seriously impressed that MDK 2 (a 2000 release) natively supports 1920x1080 with proper widescreen FOV scaling. Not even games as late as 2006 could boast that. The only thing affected is the HUD stretching, but that's a hell of a lot better than the entire screen stretching like most other games from 2000.
