Welcome to Game Play. A series, of sorts, where I check out various video games and share my experiences with you.

Today we're taking a look at Assassin's Creed: The Ezio Collection (Xbox One X).

I remember playing Assassin's Creed II on my Xbox 360 when it first launched back in the day. I have many fond memories of traversing the world through the eyes of the charismatic Ezio Auditore, who might just be the best protagonist the series have seen so far.

Playing the upgraded version on new consoles is absolutely a treat. Running through the streets and on the rooftops of Italy once more with enhanced graphics is something to behold. Playing Assassin's Creed II again is, in fact, quite the sensation for me.

However, I'm also experiencing many of the issues from back then as well. Mainly when I'm trying to do parkour. Under normal circumstances, I can do it just fine, for the most part at least, but add any sense of pressure and poor Ezio will come crashing into walls and miss entire jumps.

Obviously, I'm the one controlling him, but I find it quite difficult to steer him in the right path when under a time limit. Thankfully, the game is pretty forgiving, as you'll notice when I'm chasing the guard through the catacombs. He'll stand perfectly still while I get a second and even a third chance to capture him. Very polite of him, indeed!

Also some technical issues here and there. The graphics won't' always load properly, the game will freeze up a bit on various occassion and the FPS will drop. The AI might do strange things at times, but these technical issues are very limited and not game breaking.

But. The thing is this: Assassin's Creed II is, in my opinion, one of the great games of the last console generation. It was mindblowing to simply look at the carefully detailed cities that felt alive. Upgrading Ezio with various armor pieces and weapons was a joy. Sure, it has its fair share of issues and flaws but they won't ruin the overall experience.

Assassin's Creed II is a classic and I can wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone. Especially to those who haven't checked it out yet.

The game was recorded on Xbox One X directly to an external HDD. No postwork has been done.
