Gears of War: Ultimate Edition (Xbox One X) - Gameplay
Welcome to Game Play. A series, of sorts, where I check out various video games and share my experiences with you.
Today we're taking a look at Gears of War: Ultimate Edition (Xbox One X).
I absolutely loved the original Gears of War when it launched on the Xbox 360 many years ago. Still to this day, it's one of the most influential and audiovisually impressive games ever to grace the gaming landscape.
Created by Cliff Bleszinski, when he worked as a designer at Epic Games, Gears of War showcased not only how the Unreal Engine could perform on Microsoft's newest system but also what the action genre could do in terms of gameplay and even storytelling.
It didn't exactly introduce the third person cover system but it did perfect it to such a degree that it became a staple in even modern day shooters. There's little point in denying that Gears of War made its mark, and although I wasn't a huge fan of Gears of War 4, the original can't ever quite be matched.
But how's the Ultimate Edition? Well. It looks stunning and feels great to play. The cutscenes and overall graphical and gameplay performance have improved drastically but this is to be expected.
The thing is this: it's Gears of War. It's a classic that has been updated to suit modern day standards, and it's greater than ever. Check it out.
The game was recorded directly on the Xbox One X to an external HDD. No postwork has been done.
