Welcome to Game Play. A series, of sorts, where I check out various video games and share my experiences with you.

Today we're taking a look at The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (Playstation 4 Pro).

There is little point in denying that this is one of the most ambitious games of our time. Playing it for the first time, I can definitely see how and why the game has received so much praise since its release in 2015. It's also admirable to see how CD Projekt Red continues to support The Witcher 3.

The game is rather huge and it's absolutely beautiful to look at. The sights and sounds are wonderfully crafted by very skilled and talented artists. Simply riding through the world on horseback is an experience I wish everyone to have.

The world, however, isn't simply large but it's also full of life offering a variety of monsters, bandits, traders, villagers, beasts, animals and everything in between. There are plenty of landmarks to be found and villages and cities to experience, where you most often find new things to do in terms of quests and various contracts.

The quests and missions are quite varied offering plenty of new and exciting things to do. However, the game do feature some repetitive objectives here and there, but the overall quality of the quests and missions is excellent.

There are plenty of things to do in the massive world of The Witcher 3 and this video won't even come close to showcase everything. We've only touched upon the surface, but I do want to mention a few things that I'm not overly fond of.

The leveling system is robust but hard to master. Once you get the hang of it, however, you can truly create an awesome witcher. My main issue, if you can call it that, is that it can take quite a while to gain new levels, but it also gives you a sense of truly having earned that level. So it's a matter of perspective, but I would've liked to see leveling taking a bit less time.

In terms of the actual gameplay, the combat is extremely fun and rewarding while also being difficult and challenging. It strikes a fine balance where it's easy to learn but hard to master. Navigating the world, on the other hand, can at times be a bit bothersome in my opinion. Geralt can at times feel a bit wonky to control, especially under water, and the sensitive camera doesn't always make things better.

There are other issues too. The graphics will sometimes pop into view, where you'll see entire grass fields grow right before your eyes. It's a minor thing, and it doesn't happen all that often, but it's an issue nonetheless.

But the thing is: the only reason why these both minor and major issues become so relevant is due to the overall quality of the game. It's such a polished and excellent experience that these issues become very noticable, but they will absolutely not ruin the game.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has its reputation for a reason: it's one of the finest games out there, and you won't regret picking it up. Just remember to use the right sword for the task at hand, and you'll be fine.

The game footage was recorded on the Playstation 4 Pro and transfered to an external HDD. No postwork has been done.
