Back the Log Off! - Episode 37: Slept Like a Fog
Originally recorded: August 18, 2022

After being on a relative hot streak when it comes to titling each of these episodes, I have to say this one definitely feels like it's on the weaker side. Worse yet, I didn't even name this episode the night I recorded it, like I normally do. This was actually named the next day, which just makes the title feel that much worse. Better luck next time, I suppose.
I was originally going to discuss the Sunsoft Virtual Event that aired the same day I recorded this, but given it's main purpose as sort of a "asynchronous book club" for the person who wanted to see me stream the Trails in the Sky trilogy, I decided to just drop the whole idea. I didn't really want to date the whole thing.
It's funny. Originally I figured that reaching Chapter 5 by month's end would've been this Herculean feat, that I would've just barely been able to reach with as many extra sessions as I would've been able to add. Instead, I managed to make it there pretty easily with just a single additional recording outside of my general twice-weekly "schedule". I'd almost say that makes my new goal of reaching Chapter 6 by month's end a cakewalk by comparison, but the thing about my optimism is that it tends to just blow up in my face.
Speaking of which, this is another one of those streams where I honestly accomplished very little in the grand scheme of things... and yet the dopamine rush of seeing another chapter's title card makes me feel like it was all worth it. Seriously, the sheer ease my perspective can be warped when it comes to progressing through this game is downright frightening at times. But let's not dwell on that. After all, we got to see wacky senior citizen hook-ups and make an alcohol immunity potion!
Admittedly, that whole bit with Estelle's dream was... pretty sad. I guess that's the benefit of having an entire game and a half's worth of exposition regarding the young Miss Bright. You can totally understand why her idyllic childhood would be the perfect trap to snare her into an endless sleep. And the fact that it ended up coming down to a choice between her mother's love and chasing after Joshua... well, let's be honest. I knew from the second that Estelle regressed to childhood that things were going to get heavy.
Scherazard's connection to the next Enforcer was pretty blatantly foreshadowed in the chapter, so it wasn't really a surprise. I'm just wondering if Luciola is going to end up being the final Enforcer we meet in SC. I don't know, but the start of Chapter 5 seems to imply that we might meet yet another one... and this one's going to be related to Agate, given our proximity to his hometown. Hell, originally, I assumed that his little sister was dead... but Schera and Zin's pre-established relationships to two of the Enforcers are making me second-guess that prediction.
I'm going to try to slot in another "three-session week" for the final full week of August, but that's going to come down to how well my next livestream on Sunday goes. If I manage to finish the game I'm currently working on, it should be all good. But if not, I guess I'll just have to make sure I reach Chapter 6 in the three sessions I definitely have left.
