Baldur's Gate 2 Legacy of Bhaal Difficulty Guide Finale - How to beat Irenicus
The first battle is against the dragon Nizidramanii'yt. Nizidramanii'yt has a lot of hit points and possesses both elemental and physical resistances, making a conventional fight challenging. However, the dragon has a significant weakness—he is not immune to Vorpal hits. We can exploit this by using the Silver Sword, which we acquired in the previous episode, to trigger an instant death effect. Yet, the Silver Sword alone isn’t enough; we need to support Keldorn with arcane spells. Before the battle, Nalia prepares a Spell Sequencer with three Greater Malison spells and casts Improved Haste on Keldorn. The Spell Sequencer allows Nalia to store up to three level 4 or lower spells and cast them simultaneously. Before triggering the sequencer, we cast Power Word: Blind to blind the dragon. Since Power Word: Blind has no saving throw, it will succeed as long as we bypass the dragon's magic resistance, making it easier for Keldorn to land hits with the Silver Sword. Next, Nalia lowers the dragon's magic resistance with Lower Resistance and then launches the Spell Sequencer. With the dragon’s magic resistance reduced, the Greater Malison spells are more likely to be effective, further lowering Nizidramanii'yt’s saving throws. Now, the dragon is vulnerable to the Silver Sword's Vorpal effect, and Keldorn can finish the job.
The next battle is with Irenicus in his elf form. This fight is relatively easy because Irenicus strictly uses magic damage, which can be countered with the Cloak of Mirroring. We’ll use Keldorn again, equipping him with the Cloak of Mirroring and our best gear. Keldorn should start the fight by casting Dispel Magic to remove Irenicus’s spell protections, then follow up with attacks using Carsomyr. Be cautious when Irenicus has his Fire Shield active, as attacking with Carsomyr will cause us to take damage. However, these attacks also strip away his spell protections, so make sure to stop attacking if Keldorn’s hit points get too low. The one spell we are vulnerable to is Maze, but we can simply wait out its duration and resume attacking. Once Irenicus’s Fire Shield expires, Keldorn can cast Improved Haste and go on the offensive to bring him down.
The final battle is against Irenicus in his Slayer form in Hell. Before the battle begins, we summon a single Skeleton Warrior to act as a decoy while we cast Haste on the party. Once the battle starts, the decoy engages Irenicus while the party retreats to the south of the map to cast buffs in safety. One critical spell is Project Image, which creates a copy of Nalia with her own independent spell list, allowing for additional casts of Mordenkainen’s Sword. Mazzy should also use Vhailor's Helm to cast Simulacrum for additional firepower. Once all buffs are in place, we launch an all-out attack with our physical attackers while Nalia repeatedly casts Breach to strip away Irenicus’s remaining defenses. In this form, Irenicus has high HP regeneration, so the goal is to overwhelm him with damage to prevent him from casting spells and healing.
Once Irenicus is defeated, we’ve completed Shadows of Amn on Legacy of Bhaal difficulty. Thank you to everyone who took the time to watch these videos! Next, we’ll tackle Watcher’s Keep and Throne of Bhaal.
