In this episode, we'll explore how we can use weapons and other gear to maximize the damage of our main DPS party members, Darksbane, Keldorn, Mazzy and Valygar. In the last episode, we secured the Carsomyr for Keldorn as well as getting new proficiency points for both Mazzy and Darksbane. For Mazzy, we put the points into Crossbows; for Darksbane, we put a third point into Two Weapon Fighting. We've also gathered a fair amount of gold, for which we can buy some new weapons. Firstly, we'll head to Watcher Keep to buy the Firetooth crossbow. This best-in-slot weapon for Mazzy has a +4 modifier to THAC0 and damage and creates +2 bolts which gives a total modifier of +6. Next, we head to the Copper Coronet to buy the Defender of Easthaven, this offhand weapon for Darksbane provides +1 to AC and is resistant to physical damage.

Now that Darksbane, Keldorn and Mazzy have their best in-slot weapons for Shadows of Amn, let's get some new weapons for Valygar. The next stop is the Guarded compound in the Temple District to face the Glabrezu. The Glabrezu is a challenge as it is immune to most forms of crowd control, but we can use a new level 6 priest spell Bolt of Glory. Bolt of Glory does the most damage to demons and deals 10d6 damage that avoids Magic Resistance. We have enough spell slots for 2 Bolt of Glory but that's not enough, so we follow up with the level 3 priest spell Holy Smite. Holy Smite deals damage to evil creatures,.If the target fails the saving throw, they are blinded; if they succeed, they are not blinded and only take half damage. With enough Holy Smites, we can take out the Glabrezu and head to the floor above, where we can defeat Koshi and secure the Celestial Fury. The Celestial Fury is a +3 Katana that provides some good spells, but it's true value is the on-hit stun. You may notice that many of our weapon choices provide on-hit effects. Fights on Legacy of Bhaal difficulty are very long and so we are more likely to get value out of on-hit effects.

However, Valygar is a dual-weilder so we need a good weapon for his off-hand as well. For that, we head to the Planar Prison, where we can defeat a female thrall to secure the Kundane, a +2 Short sword that provides +1 Attack Per Round. The +1 Attack affects the main hand, so this gives us a higher chance of triggering the stun from Celestial Fury. Before heading into the Planar Prison, we purchase the Ring of Air Control to prepare for the fight against the Master of Thralls. The Master of Thralls summons two Air Elementals. However, the Ring of Air Control provides a once-per-day Charm that affects Air Elementals, enabling them to tank the Master of Thralls and defeat him. Once the Master of Thralls is defeated, we can destroy the Mastery Orb he drops. This action weakens the Warden, forcing him to escape the Planar Prison.

Weapons are not the only equipment we can secure to increase our damage. We can also get some new gear to increase the Strength of our melee characters. We can purchase the Girdle of Hill Giant Strength from the Adventurer Mart which grants 19 Strength to the wearer. Additionally, we can secure the Hands of Takkok from the next dungeon, the Planar Sphere. The Hands of Takkok provide 18/00 Strength to the wearer. Since Keldorn already has the Gauntlets of Dexterity equipped, we should equip the Girdle on Keldorn and the Hands of Takkok on Valygar. The Planar Sphere is also a great place to showcase Carsomyr. Carsomyr is a Paladin-only great sword which provides 50% Magic Resistance and triggers a level 30 Dispel Magic on Hit which makes it perfect for taking out the many mage enemies in this dungeon.
