Baldur's Gate 2 Legacy of Bhaal Difficulty Guide Part 6 - How to kill Beholders
After Keldorn has spent a day with his family, it's time for him to rejoin the party. As mentioned in previous videos, Keldorn is a valued member of our team and provides fantastic Inquisitor powers to help defeat Mages. However, his Dexterity leaves much to be desired, to counter this we can complete the Eyeless Cult Quest and secure the Gauntlets of Dexterity.
Before we are ready to take on the Beholders in the Eyeless Cult, we'll need to get some specialized equipment. The first stop is the druid grove to complete the Tradesmeet Genie quest. We couldn't defeat the Rakshasa earlier because her immunity to spells made it difficult to debuff her, but now with Darksbane's fighter levels returned, he can use the Flail of Ages to apply the slow effect. We'll summon Skeletons, a fire elemental, and cast all our buffs to focus fire the Rakshasa to take her down quickly. The Rakshasa's minions may cast a Cloudkill spell, but we can counter this with a Zone of Sweet Air spell from Darksbane.
After defeating the Rakshasa we can return to Tradesmeet. With both the Animal problem and the Genie problem solved, Tradesmeet accepts you as the town hero. There are several other optional quests in Tradesmeet that allow for the group to increase their reputation, allowing us to get better deals on gear. Once the Genies are removed a new Merchant appears in Tradesmeet who sells the Belt of Inertial Barrier. This belt is the best belt for a tank in the game as it provides a 50% reduction to magic damage and will be very useful in the Eyeless Cult Quest. Next, we return to the Adventure's Mark to purchase the Shield of Balduran. This powerful Shield penalizes strength, but it has a high AC bonus and reflects Beholders Ray attacks.
With our new gear, Darksbane can easily defeat any Beholder outside of the Unseeing Eye itself. We can progress the Eyeless Cult quest until we get to Ghoul Town. Ghoul Town has a multitude of enemies, so instead of combat, we will utilize Nalia's stealth and invisibility spells to sneak in and secure the Gauntlets of Dexterity without incident. With the Gauntlets equipped, Keldorns AC drops dramatically, and he is much better equipped to be on the front lines.
Finally, we are ready to take on the Unseeing Eye itself. We'll have Darksbane solo this encounter as characters without his magic resistance are much more likely to die in this battle. Darksbane utilizes the Rift Device to dispel the creature's magic protection, before wading into Melee with the creature. This Beholder doesn't use ray attacks, so the Shield of Balduran will not be effective, which is why we secured the Belt of Inertial Barrier earlier. With the Beholder's damage reduced to half, Darksbane can tank the creature long enough to secure victory.
