I have so much to say about this one. First off, the reason it took me so long was the drums and arrangement. I had a ton of "prog metal" inspired ideas from the get-go and sifting through to find what worked and what was usable was a task in itself. Mixing was still being done after I recorded the video if that gives you any indication of how much work I put on myself here.
There was definitely more focus on getting the guitars juuuuuuust right this time. I wasn't particularly happy with how they sounded in the Dark Cave cover, so I went ahead and pick out an IR on the darkglass that worked better for guitars. I got some advice from a friend (shoutout andrew you rock man!) for mixing the rhythm guitar part and I think it just sounds massive and works fantastic with a mid-scooped bass sound. I also went out of my way to dial in the drums a bit more to give the kick and snare more power behind the riffs. All in all, I think the music is my best work to date and I'm extremely happy with my progress.
The video.... I'm not sure why some of the footage looks grainy. I'm willing to bet its got something to do with my lighting considering I had to color correct pretty much every clip. If I wasn't already taking up too much time I probably would have re-done some the parts. I think it still works at the end of the day though. There are a couple of parts I really wanted to shine and I think I accomplished that. I can chalk some minor hiccups to not having a cameraperson right?
I've put more into this song and video than anything I've done so far, and I'm going to keep pushing myself to try new things with music and video production. I hope you all enjoy it!
