I'm gonna keep it a buck with you all, I battled this song. I've known (more or less) how to play the main parts of this song for a few years now, but trying to do the entire thing in one take, it's a whole different beast. Every time I play it, I hear a different fill, or a note that wasn't quite where it needed to be, or something. I tried at the beginning of december to record a playthrough of it and only succeeded in making myself incredibly frustrated.

So what worked this time that didn't before? In a word, headphones. I don't really like wearing them when I'm shooting video since it's one more cable to manage but in this case, they were essential to being able to hear transitions and fills properly. It's such a small, dumb thing too but it made a world of difference. It should also be said, I got this footage 2 days after surgery, so my cheeks are still big chipmunk swollen lol.

While editing I've noticed a pattern with my close up shots not being framed properly and I think the has a lot to do with how I have my camera set up. I use the M50 MKII with the kit lens (because field of vision and all that), running through OBS for easy file transfer and while the footage looks fine on the monitor while I'm recording, I find myself with completely out of frame in the footage. It's mostly a problem with having too many things going at once to try to get everything in one take, but it's something I'm definitely keeping in the front of my mind moving forward.
