I started arranging this song in July of 2022. It is now June 2023. What happened? Well, to recap, early last summer I got the opportunity to see Primus live (They did Farewell to Kings. It was magical) and naturally, it got me wanting to do more bass jams. More specifically, it reeeeeeally made me want to learn to play like Les. The wacky sounds, the complicated slap and tap stuff, oh how I do love an arbitrary challenge that is self inflicted. So I spent a couple months piecing this together. Getting all of the sounds was the easy part. Getting good takes was a completely different beast though. Going through the stored files on my PC I can say this song went through 11 revisions before it became what you hear today (as opposed to an average of 2-3). The result is some bass playing that I'm personally very proud of and have been waiting a VERY long time to show you all.

Now let's talk about the word "Ambition". Before I had even the first drum beat down, I had ideas for the video. Everything from a full silhouetted band, with a drummer, location shoots.... There was a lot. By the time I had time to work on any of it, my priorities and changed drastically and I'm not gonna go over all that again. I shot test footage on multiple occasions, none of it came out the way I was wanting which was incredibly disheartening after the 4th or 5th try. So for roughly 8 months, this song and the plans for the video just kinda sat. Undisturbed. Waiting until the time was right.

Then I did Area Zero and, for me, not only did it push me back into the raging current that is creative workflow, but the video for that was really a sort of test with what I could do shooting video in the new office space. In the time since then, I've kinda been cleaning things up a bit. Did some tidying up on the backdrop, and for the first time seemingly ever, I feel like I can actually record good looking video, easily, in a controlled environment. It brought back the motivation to make videos and this was one that, to me, absolutely needed done next. So I scrapped all of those overly ambitious ideas and went with what I knew I could do and do right. My awesome wife helped run the camera, and we got the thing done.

We've come a long way in a year but there is one thing certain, this is a song I'm immensely proud of and I really hope you all enjoy it!
