So from the start I wanted to challenge myself to produce something in a relatively timely manner. I got the Lufia cover done at the beginning of October and I figured it would be cool to get a Castlevania tune worked up by the end of the month. Problem was, I couldn't decide which song to pick. It was back and forth between Crystal Teardrops and Wicked Child for a while and then one day (I think it was Monday the 11th) I was browsing other Castlevania songs and Simons Theme just kinda clicked.

Normally I take a couple of weeks to arrange and write drums since I feel my best comes out of everything when I'm fully immersed. I felt the pressure to get it done from the get-go though so things came together a lot faster this time. I pretty much kept the same drum sounds from the Lufia cover for the sake of ease and consistency and very quickly dialed in a nice scooped sound for the Bongo because I knew the guitar parts were going to be my biggest enemy here. The rhythm parts came together easy enough, but I was really fighting with the lead sound because surprise! I've only EQ'd guitars twice in my life before this and both times were for this channel. Turns out though Bias FX was the way to go since they have a ton of presets that are solid for leads.

Originally I was going to have a friend come in for the guitar solo since I'm many things but a fantastic guitar player is not one of them, but sadly the notice was too short. I want to to more collaborative work in the future, but we'll see how it goes. By the time I got everything put together and mixed, I had 3 days left to record, edit and upload in order to meet my self imposed deadline. I was stressed, worried, and not really feeling confident if I'm being completely honest, but I powered through and as I was editing, I got a little self affirmation that I actually made it happen when I was almost certain it wasn't gonna work out in my time frame. I'm extremely proud of how well everything came out given the circumstances, and its given me a lot to think about moving forward. I hope you all enjoy it.
