In Helmand, the Taliban stronghold of Sayedebad was taken by British forces last August, during Operation Black Prince. The area saw fierce fighting over the months that followed, as the insurgents attempted to hold their ground. But recently, the balance has tipped. Security's been good, and local people have re-opened the bazaar. The well-irrigated fields give rise to crops such as wheat, and the illegal opium poppy is everywhere. But it has been an essential part of driving out the insurgency, and bringing peace.
