About this video: In this video, I am going to be showing you exactly how to choose the perfect CPU for your gaming PC. This is going to guide you to choosing the perfect processor no matter what your budget is when you are first building your system.

First things first, you need to decide the overall budget for your system. If you want a solid 'budget build', $500 can get the job done. However, if you want the best price per performance, $1,000 is perfect.

After you've got your overall budget, you need to decide how much to spend on the CPU. I would recommend spending about 15-20% of your budget on your CPU. For example, on a $700 build, a $126 Ryzen 3 1300X would make perfect sense at 18% of the total cost of the build. As a rule of thumb, if you are going Intel, you are going to be spending 20% and possibly up to 25% on the CPU, and if you are going AMD, you are going to be spending less at around 15% to 20% on the processor.

Once you've decided how much to spend on the CPU, it's time to choose if you want to go with an AMD CPU or an Intel CPU. Intel tends to be better in gaming performance. This is because Intel has better single core performance over AMD. Most games don't use more than 2 cores, so single core performance is important. With that being said though, AMD has really stepped up their game in 2017 and 2018, and now, the Ryzen CPUs are good at gaming and a great option.

For budget builds, AMD is probably the way to go whereas with higher-end systems Intel is still the best bet.

Now, you've got your budgets figured out and you've decided if Intel or AMD is best for you. Now, it's time to choose the actual processor. I would recommend going to a website like PCPartPicker and filtering to only Intel or AMD, whichever you have decided you want to use, and then change your budget to the range I gave you above. 15-25% of the total cost you want to spend.

Doing this should narrow it down to 5 or 6 options. From here you need to decide on a few more things. Do you want to overclock? Because if you do, pretty much everything from AMD can be overclocked at this point. On the Intel side, however, you are going to want to look for a processor in the 'K' skew. Basically, it will have a 'K' at the end of the name.

Next, you need to look at core count and clock speed. In the current CPU market, there is no reason to buy a CPU with less than 4 cores. All of the modern Intel and AMD offerings that I would consider for gaming have 4 cores. In regards to clock speed though, this is going to vary more. Overall, a base clock of 3.2GHz or higher should be acceptable and good for gaming. Usually, the higher the base clock the better, but keep in mind that a higher base clock means more power use and heat production.

From here, you should have only 2 or 3 options left. So, let's look at price as our final factor. Go back to the 15 to 25 percent rule. and find something near the middle. Usually, the CPU at the 18% mark with AMD and the 22% mark on Intel are your best bang for your buck options.

NOTE: A note on fans. Stock fans are not meant for overclocking. If you use a stock fan, leave the CPU at stock speeds. If you want to overclock, get an aftermarket cooler like the Hyper 212 EVO.

And there you have it! You've got your CPU! Next week, I will be doing a video on motherboards, then RAM, then GPUs, then hard drives. Basically, I'm going to be covering every part in a PC in order to help you make the best build possible.

So, if this video did help you pick a CPU for your gaming PC, please give it a thumbs up and be sure to subscribe to the channel if you haven't already. It really helps us out, and it means a ton to me! Thank you very, very much in advance!
