About this video: This video is my in-depth guide to building a Hackintosh, which, for those of you that don't know, is a computer running MacOS that you have built yourself. This is a great way to get a computer running MacOS without paying the 'Apple Tax' on the hardware that is inside the machine.
So before we get into picking parts, building the system, and installing MacOS, I wanted to talk a bit about why you may actually want to build a Hackintosh. You see Apple's prices are stupidly expensive, and usually, by building an Apple compatible computer yourself. On top of that, you get more control over your hardware such as GPUs, hard drives, port selection, and more. This option for additional expandability was one of the main reasons we wanted to build a Hackintosh rather than buying a used iMac. We could get better specs at a cheaper price with expandability options.
Now, building your own Mac isn't all fairies and rainbows. You have to be super careful on the hardware you choose, and depending on what hardware you go with things like iMessage, location tracking, and the app store could have some issues. Along the way, you'll also probably run into other issues as well such as hard drives not formatting correctly and drivers not working. This isn't easy, but if you are a bit tech savvy and use this guide, you will be able to get a Hackintosh up and running without any issues.
So when you're building a Hackintosh, choosing the right hardware is one of the most important aspects. If you don't have hardware that will work with MacOS, your Hackintosh will be dead in the water before you even get started. For our specific build, we went with used hardware that if you were to buy it all on eBay right now would cost you under $400. This system performs better than a 2015 iMac, and it costs over $1,000 less even though it actually has higher spec'd hardware. Not too shabby if you ask me!
Installing MacOS on the system isn't too difficult. You will actually need a Mac to build a Hackintosh, but you can borrow one from a friend or family member if you need to. You'll only need it for an hour so to download the most recent version of MacOS. Specifically, in this video, I show you how to build a Hackintosh with MacOS High Sierra. Thus, you will have a completely up-to-date Hackintosh if you build your Hackintosh using the methods outlined in this video!
Once you've got a Mac, you'll also need a 16GB USB drive to boot MacOS off of the first time. After you have that, you just need to download UniBeast, MultiBeast, and your graphics card driver. You will use UniBeast to get MacOS on to your USB drive. After that, it's time to move over to your custom built system. On this system, you will want to boot off the USB drive you just add Mac OS too and basically follow the instructions. Just make sure you use the correct boot arguments for your Nvidia GPU if you have.
Once you have MacOS installed, you'll need to open up MultiBeast to make sure you get all of the correct drivers. Select your drivers, install them, install the Nvidia driver, and you're done!
