Having secured another train, Delta and Sinclair finally reach the corporate headquarters of Fontaine Futuristics, once one of Rapture's leading high technology firms that was seized by Andrew Ryan in 1958 after its CEO, Frank Fontaine was killed for conspiring against Ryan and his government, their objective being to find a way into the underground facility used as Sophia's main base of operations and where Eleanor is held. With Ryan and Fontaine dead and Rapture under control of Rapture Family, the building and its facilities were repurposed for Sophia Lamb's ADAM-based experiments meant to create the "Utopian", a person capable of harnessing the collective memories of Rapture's entire population within their body and who'd use that power to "serve common good" with the prime candidate for this role being Eleanor. Upon entering the building proper, Delta discovers that Sophia's experiments with transferring ADAM-coded memories into a single person have already had a horrifying result. Namely, researcher involved in the creation of both Big Daddies and their female counterparts, Big Sisters, Gilbert Alexander who has survived the societal collapse of Rapture to join Sophia's cult, has volounteered for the ADAM transfer procedure in October 1967, hoping to become a being capable of serving the "common good" preached by Sophia. However, the experiment proved to be a complete, horrifying failure as massive ammounts of ADAM in Alexander's body started to warp him both mentally and physically, prompting Sophia to have him contained within Fontaine Futuristics' research wing. Aware that he has been abandoned and that he will become an insane shadow of his former self soon, Alexander used the last days before the ADAM-addled psychosis overtook him to create an elaborate series of instructions for anyone who ventures into the building to find and kill him in order to end his suffering. Aware that he will have to find and kill Alexander in order to reach Eleanor, Delta sets out to do so, only to find that Alexander, who has started to refer to himself as "Alex The Great", has complete control over the building's security systems and has completely descended into ADAM-addled psychotic delusion that he "runs" Fontaine Futuristics and that Splicers under his control are his "employees" whom he regularly "disciplines" via heavily modified security bot. Refusing to let Delta pass through his domain, Alexander utilizes the building's security systems and considerable number of Splicers and Big Daddies, including other Alpha Series models who went into permanent state of murderous rage due to being separated from their Little Sisters for over a decade, to try and stop him. Despite that, Delta manages to make his way through the building proper, destroying Alexander's security control devices along the way in order to lessen his control over its systems. Afterwards, Delta proceeds into the facility's plasmid research facility and discovers that Alexander is holed up there, being placed in a massive aquatic container as ADAM in his body has transformed him into a creature completely unrecognizable as a human being. Knowing that he will need Alexander's genetic signature in order to access Sophia's lair beneath the building, Delta follows Alexander's recorded instructions and sets out into the facility in order to find several ADAM-infused plants which are his mutated self's favorite food and whose presence would allow Delta to draw the genetic sample needed to create a key into the facility. After making his way through Splicer and Big Daddy-infested research facility, Delta manages to acquire the necessary plants and use them to distract mutated Alexander long enough to take his DNA and use it to draw up a physical key. With path to Eleanor secured, Delta is left with the final choice of either respecting Alexander's last request as a sane man and killing his mutated self or listening to insane, mutated Alexander who begs Delta to let him live. After a brief deliberation, Delta chooses to put Alexander out of his misery and kills him by electrocuting his holding tank. Afterwards, he leaves the research facility of Fontaine Futuristics and uses Alexander's genetic key to reveal a hidden passageway leading into the underground facility used as Lamb's stronghold...
