Superd'nought Baël is the boss where I found out all my previous strategies are too weak against the obstacles faced. Three enemies at once assaulting the party with MT physicals + ice magic proved way too much. The easy way to cheese this would be to get three characters afflicted with the Ghost status (now possible with Patissier's availability), in which case you simply have one tank taking all the attacks while the three ghosts cast magic on the enemies here, with no strategising or risk of game over whatsoever. Said strategy is applicable for the remainder of the challenge and can really trivialise it. I've been doing well without the help of Ghost strats and would like to keep that going for the rest of the runthrough.

With the game being so relentless to me, I had to do things I'd previously abstained from. Namely, doing some more hardcore ability grinding. I got pretty far in several key jobs, Wizard and Red Mage for instance, which gave access to the brilliant setup for offence in MP Free in a Pinch + Full Charge. For just 2 PS, you can forget about MP cost entirely and just wreak havoc with the most powerful spells you've got, spellcrafting them however is most effective at the time, while also receiving a 50% boost to power.

The problem is, of course, being in critical HP, and the real reason why we never got around to using this setup before (I did have MP Free in a Pinch on my forced ghost in the last fight with Angelo). At this point, its usage becomes both possible and necessary.

So in this battle we go for a very setup in which I have three critical HP Wizards attacking with priority summons for free, with my 4th character being simultaneously a tank and the party's support cleric. How does this work? Yew reclasses to Catmancer, oddly the first job I've maxed at job lv. 10. This gives me Purrfect Stance, which caps defences. The cap is normally at 150% for all buffs, but Limit Breaker (can be equipped on anyone in the party to work) doubles that to 200%. By stacking enough heavy armour on my Catmancer, I achieve a substantial enough phys defence stat to receive 0 dmg from the boss's physical attacks. There's still the ice-elemental magical attack that will KO everything anyway, and for that I have the Icefire shield on my Catmancer.

Now Catmancer must be given Prescience (Astrologian; 2 PS) to pre-empt the bosses with Purrfect Stance; the same turn he gets himself to 200% defence he should also be using the Blessing spell with the Mist Spellcraft. Mist makes the effect of the spell continue for 3 turns at the end of each round of actions, and also for some reason makes it affect everyone. Blessing causes targets to be revived at 15% HP (in critical HP for my skills to be in effect at all times), all of them, for three turns in a row until I have to renew it with my tank once more.

The last problem in the way of our survival is Private Piddler who can indeed pierce our tank and lead to a game over (somebody has to be alive for Blessing to activate at the end of the turn). I simply focus attacks on him on the first turn.

The Spellcraft of choice for this battle is Dart, and nothing else really works anywhere as well. It's a priority move ('priority' must be the keyword in this challenge at this point on), so as weak as it may be compared to other options at our disposal, like the crit-happy Hammer, we have to use that to get some damage in as we're otherwise outsped and OHKO'd by the ice-elemental magic move.

We focus fire on Piddler first, then attack the boss with the ice summon since it's weak to water. There's the danger of Bael executing a powerful attack after the charge but attacking it with water magic causes it to malfunction, so even when Piddler returns, he can't do much, and KOing Bael ends this battle.

This sums up chapter 2 with the new challenges it brought. I'm almost done with chapter 3 too by now, and will probably upload all of those battles in one single video (because that would be too many videos otherwise).
