One of the features of DotMod is a player controlled ASW helo carried onboard some surface ships that can carry a torpedo far beyond the normal weapons range of the ship itself. This can add a variety of tactics to your attack. You can see how the various parts of the operation works.

To make this "fair", the DDG will NOT fire its weapons during this mission. All weapons will be dropped by the helo only. DDG will do detection, and if necessary, evade, but otherwise will not shoot at the enemy subs.

As the scenario starts, we start scope, ESM, and radar, and it quickly IDed 2 trawlers. We also deployed towed array, and went silent running toward the east.

We also deploy the helo, by pressing the helo icon (left button) once. Once the helo is ready, hit button to launch.

Then we started getting intermittent contact on S3 roughly northeast. I started up the Seahawk and let it fly that way. Identified S3 as a Song class SS, but do we attack now, or firm up solution first?

I ordered the helo to drop on S3, and it spooked S3 that S3 started cavitating to get away. But this also brought up a new signal S4, which was identified as Song class sub before it faded. While the torpedo chased S3 around I have Seahawk drop another torpedo on S3. However, that means I need to land and rearm the helo to prosecute S4.

I turned the ship north and waited for the Seahawk to come back. Then I press 3rd button to "land" the Seahawk when it is close to the ship. Reload will be fast. Once the helo's reloaded (torpedo count says 2), click on helo icon to launch.

Now, let's go active sonar on the ship... See how enemies react? Seems S4 is now due north, and we got a new contact S5... Classified S5 as Ming class. Helo is going back out to prosecute all those contacts. Helo dropped on S5, and S5 died. Brought helo back to rearm.

S4 has faded, where did he go?

Even as I stop and think about it, I suddenly got news that S4 had fired multiple torpedoes at me at distance of 16 km. I retrieved towed array, then turned west and went all ahead flank. After 6km, I went back to silent running. Song is busy dodging a torpedo, even as Seahawk arrived to add one more torpedo, then another. Song was left with nowhere to go and ate one of the torpedos.

I finally saw the torpedoes S4 fired toward me, now passing well behind me.

I wonder if there is a fourth sub, even as the area emptied of contacts. I tried searching a bit more, and eventually decided to disengage (end mission).

Debrief: There were actually 4 subs out there, and we failed to detect the 3rd Song class sub. But successfully killing 3 out of 4 subs was not too bad.
