Part 14: End of Antiquity
We know what has to be done. Queen Zeal plans to tap into Lavos via the Mammon Machine to obtain ultimate power. It’s up to us to stop her before who knows what can happen.
If I were you, I make sure that you stock up on weapons, items, etc. because from here on out, this is the point of no return. Once the Zeal Kingdom is gone, you won’t see it. This also includes the hidden Gemstone you can get as well.
Crono and his crew reach the Ocean Palace aka Zeal’s underwater fortress. It’s here where the Mammon Machine is kept and Zeal’s determination in harnessing Lavos’ power is going to do a lot more bad than good. There are a lot of enemies that are determined to prevent us from going any further. All you need to do is be prepared for whatever comes your way. Sometimes you got to be strategic if you wish to triumph.
At the bottom you meet Dalton again but he sends out not one but two Golems… the Golem Sisters. The strategy for them is the same here. Using a different elemental attack like Water II can help. If you want, have one character like Crono use Luminaire and the others heal from any attacks. It helps make the battles a bit easier.
After beating the Golem Sisters, Dalton storms off. Crono and the gang reach the Mammon Machine. Throwing the Ruby Knife into it, it doesn’t work. However the very knife transforms into the legendary Masamune. A roar is heard not long after… Lavos has awakened.
You face against Lavos… only to go down via “Destruction rains from the heavens”. Don’t worry, it’s a scripted fight. However if you are playing it on New Game+, Lavos has 30,000 HP and has a lot of damaging attacks. If you have the patience and strength to withstand its assault, you will take him down. Defeating him unlocks “What the Prophet Seeks” ending.
After Lavos wipes the floor with us, the Prophet reveals himself as Magus and attacks Lavos. It doesn’t work. Nothing works and Lavos prepares to unleash its fury upon everyone but Crono in a last ditch effort sacrifices himself to save them. It’s what Janus meant… “one among you will shortly perish.” In a last ditch effort, Schala uses the last of her power to send everyone in the Ocean Palace away. Schala sadly stays behind and you guys know what happens next for her.
What happens next is all too familiar. Lavos unleashes his fury upon the world. The Kingdom of Zeal sadly is its first victim. It falls, crashing into the ocean below. It’s destruction forms a tidal wave that washes away the rest of the world, leaving behind a small island. Crono is gone and everyone is at its worst point. It gets worse when Dalton shows up, claiming to be the new King of the World. With his forces, he attacks the crew and locks them up in his ship, the Blackbird.
