Part 8: Prehistoric Problems
We found the Masamune but it’s in two halves and the only way to restore it is by means of Dreamstone. So there’s only one place we can go: the past… and I mean way back in the past. We head for the Prehistoric era of 65,000,000 B.C.
Arriving, we get cornered by Reptites only to be saved by a strong cavewoman named Ayla. Ayla is based off of Launch from Dragon Ball. We follow Ayla to the tribe and ask her regarding Dreamstone. She actually seems to have a liking for Crono. Just roll with it. What follows is a night of partying, drinking and serious hangovers. The next day, they learn that Reptites have invaded and stolen the Dreamstone. Ayla joins our party but we have to do some stuff first before pressing on.
First and foremost, we head for the Hunting Grounds to get trade materials so we can get new weapons. It does take a while because we have to battle many enemies and Nus to get experience, tech points and the like. Once we get enough, we head off to find the Reptites. Within luck, we do and this is where strategy is going to be needed here. Many enemies you’ll be fighting are dinosaurs and hitting them with Lightning can shock them and lower their defense. It’s useful so keep this in mind.
We eventually meet the leader of the Reptites, Azala who has the Gate Key. Yes, the Gate Key got stolen along with the Dreamstone. Since we don’t tell him what it does, he sics Nizbel on us. Nizbel isn’t a difficult fight. Use a Lightning on him and then go on the attack. Be warned though that he will unleash a discharge after 2 or 3 turns. When that happens, heal. Heal with items or magic and then repeat the process. If you prepared yourself with better weapons and gear, you’ll do fine.
After beating Nizbel, Azala concedes and gives us back the Gate Key. We also get the Dreamstone as well. Everything is all well and we will see Ayla later. We return to the Present, provide Melchior the Dreamstone and with Lucca’s help, we get the Masamune restored.
This sets things up for Part 9: Reinvigorated Resolve.
