Time to carry on that questline we started with Toma and by briefly visiting Guardia Castle.

First head to the West Cape and visit Toma's Grave, his spirit will appear and point you towards the Giant's Claw to the NW nab the Speed Tab behind the grave, and then head over on the Epoch in 600AD.

You're in a more modern version of Tyrano Lair, so Ayla and Marle kind of make sense anyway for this sidequest. Crono can laugh like Kefka on the throne if you want.

Follow the path along for a fight and a chest and then leave further E of the entrance to come to a three switch room. N unlocks a save point, W opens pit then E drops monsters in. Fall through the pit then hit the W switch to find a Power Tab in the back then leave and head for the shining Power Tab and chest on that level. Head back up and make your way to the next room via the S.

Head down at the E, nab the chest and head W for another chest slightly hidden, then into the next room in the SW of this section.

Head into the W mouth and drop the pits and head through the SW for a chest then through the SE to proceed.

You'll then be in the jail section so follow the path and out via the W for a Power Tab then out via the E and face Rust Tyrano.

Ruby equipment will help with reducing Fire damage, and damage wise either Luminaire or the Ice Sword II Dual Tech will do work for you.

In the back you'll find the Rainbow Shell but it's too heavy.
We find ourselves back in Guardia Castle (in 600AD still) and the shell will be retrieved with the King and Queen thanking us.

Head back to 1,000AD and Guardia Castle will be in the midst of a trial with a lot of areas blocked off.

Force your way into the Court Room and the King will be on trial for hiding the Rainbow Shell, and the Chancellor will argue the King doesn't have it. We're forced out of the court room.

Head to the other staircase nearby and downstairs to find monsters.
The trial will continue with false testimonies and we'll reach the Rainbow Shell with a message from Leene telling us to leave when the time is right.
We take a Shard and head back, and interrupt the sentencing by smashing through the glass in the back.

His plans thwarted, the Chancellor reveals his true form.

You'll want to be above 50% HP to be comfortable in this fight, especially for his end counter attack. Luminaire does work again, other than that just have a good healing plan and attack with whatever with someone else.

The King thanks Marle and finally accepts her leaving on her journey.
Melchior then turns up and says he can work with the Prism Shard.
Head back to the Court Room to find the Yakra Key and inside the Locked Chest in the other Tower nearby you will find the REAL Chancellor. Yes Yakra XIII was posing as the Chancellor.

Head to Melchior where the Rainbow Shell is, and you'll be given a choice.
Honestly the choice is based on who you like in the party. If you play with two females, picking a dress now is probably better. Status isn't that common in the game, and you can get a Helm (and another dress) later.
The 1/3 Magic damage reduction is massive. Moreso when you have two for the end game. If you have the Sun Stone (I'll be getting it in a couple of parts) you can get Crono's Ultimate Weapon too.
