CiB Game Boy Theater - Top Rank Tennis and Daffy Duck: The Marvin Missions (Episode 95)
The Original Game Boy is one of the biggest 'game changers' in the history of video games, and essentially ushered in the popularity of handheld games. There are many games that will be classic forever. There are, however, a much, much higher number of simply awful, forgettable, or downright weird games. CiB Game Boy Theater shows you some of the games you might not (and shouldn't be...) familiar with.
Once again, I picked a random sports game to start out the video hoping to 'get it out of the way', and once again I am pleasantly surprised! Top Rank Tennis is still a tennis game, sure, but it sure does have soul! The gameplay is very simple (as it should be on the Game Boy), but it controls well, has a solid framerate, and looks pretty good, all things considered. If you want a solid tennis game for Game Boy, look no further!
I always love it when one of these games has a special background for Super Game Boy. As we immediately noticed, Daffy Duck: The Marvin Missions bares at least a passing resemblance to Bucky O'Hare for the NES (which is a truly awesome game). Bucky O'Hare released in 1992, and this released in 1993, so you got some explaining to do, Daffy. This game is everything I love about the Original Game Boy - it's simple, challenging, easy to pick up, fun, and I don't get completely lost 5 seconds into the game. Score! Thanks for watching.
