CiB Let's Try - Johnny Bazookatone (PS1)
Johnny Bazookatone was released for the PS1 on February 22, 1996. It also was released on Saturn, 3DO, and MS-DOS. Johnny Bazookatone was developed by Arc Developments, a short-lived company probably best known for developing Simpsons: Bart vs the Space Mutants, Arch Rivals, and Terminator 2: Judgment Day -- but just the Sega versions. It was published by US Gold, who published a lot of not-so-great games, including the James Pond series. This was one of the last games US Gold published before going defunct.
Another game where the development/publishing history is much more interesting than the gameplay itself -- Johnny Bazookatone isn't a bad game by any stretch -- in fact, considering the 1996 release, it's actually fairly impressive. It is a 2D platformer akin to Skullmonkeys and Earthworm Jim, with a fairly unique graphic style that holds up well nowadays.
Although the 4 minute (!!!!!) opening FMV is full of some funky tunes, it's surprising how little music is actually there while you're playing levels. Just for fun, we password skip to the final boss and beat it on the first try (I am KING Gamer). You can do a -lot- worse on the PS1, so we can recommend Johnny Bazookatone -- thanks for watching!
