CiB Let's Try - Outrun 2019 and OutRunners (Sega Genesis)
1This is a two-for-one Let's Try episode since both games are pretty similar.
Outrun 2019 was released in 1993 as a Sega Genesis exclusive - and it does feature the 'black box' look that almost all early Genesis games sported --- despite releasing 4 years after the Genesis released. It was developed by SIMS Co., Ltd. (House of the Dead 2, Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers: the Movie), and published by Sega.
Outrun 2019 is a pretty solid release for the Sega Genesis. Graphically, it looks phenomenal for the time period. The gameplay is fast and fluid, and the soundtrack seems fine enough. We're not the biggest fans of racing games, and this one seems to be more style than substance --- not necessarily a bad thing in an arcade-style racer.
OutRunners was released on June 14, 1994 also as a Sega genesis exclusive. It was developed internally at Sega AM1, and published by Sega. I have to be honest - I don't like this one as much as Out Run 2019, despite OutRunners releasing later. It seems like there is a bit more substance to OutRunners than Outrun 2019, but it's just not gripping me (not that I was the intended audience - and it's 25+ years later). I'm still not entirely sure what's going on with the dots on the screen. They don't appear on any other video I'm seeing on Youtube, so maybe it's a very, very specific cartridge-related glitch.
