CiB Game Boy Theater - Klax and Nemesis (Episode 88)
0The Original Game Boy is one of the biggest 'game changers' in the history of video games, and essentially ushered in the popularity of handheld games. There are many games that will be classic forever. There are, however, a much, much higher number of simply awful, forgettable, or downright weird games. CiB Game Boy Theater shows you some of the games you might not (and shouldn't be...) familiar with.
KLAX was released on June 4th, 1990 on pretty much every system, computer, handheld, and arcade machine humanly possible. It was developed (and I believe published --- though it seems there are some inconsistencies) by Atari Games. As we always say, we're not really into puzzle games, so KLAX may be lost on us. I am very appreciative of the 3D model representations, but wow, what a basic game we have here. I can't ever recommend a puzzle game in good faith, and I'll sit on the sideline on this one as well.
At least we have Nemesis, which was released in April 1990 --- a shoot-em up, which is a game genre I actually like quite a bit. It was developed and published by Konami, under their 'Ultra' brand --- Nintendo only allowed so many games to be published a year by each company, so that was Konami's way of getting around that.
The game itself is actually very impressive, even 30 years later. The fact that you can give yourself as many lives as you want, or start on any stage you want is amazing, really. It runs fairly well, looks very good, and I really cannot recommend Nemesis enough. It's going to be difficult like all shoot-em ups, but the accessibility in the options pushes this one over the top. Thanks for watching!
