Dark Souls 3 - How to Use Spells - How to Cast Miracles, Sorceries & Pyromancies in Dark Souls 3
Let's Learn How to Use Spells in Dark Souls 3 - When I first started playing, I had no idea how to cast miracles, sorceries or pyromancies so this video aims to show a beginner how they might go about that.
This is a beginners guide and will be as free of spoilers as possible.
First, let's go over the types of spells available to us
Miracles
We've got miracles! Miracles are types of magic that usually revolves around healing/buffing the player or using light to damage enemies. They scale with the Faith stat
Sorceries
Next up we've got Sorceries - These spells have a pretty large variety of effects and damage types. They scale with the intelligence stat
Pyromancies
Finally we have pyromancies - as the name suggests these spells primarily deal fire damage or improve fire resistances. Pyromancy spells scale with both Faith and Intelligence
Now that we've gone over the basics of each type of spell, let's talk about how you actually use them!
First of all, each type of spell requires an item wielded in one of your hands. The item is different depending on the school of spell you're trying to cast. For Miracles, you need to have a talisman or chime, for Sorceries you need a staff or catalyst and pyromancies can be cast by equipping the Pyromancy Flame.
I'm not going to cover where to actually find this stuff! That's part of the dark souls 3 experience, and I'd have to spoil things. My advice is to go out into that crazy world and check every nook and cranny! However, once you find the items and spells you need - here's how they work.
First rest at a bonfire and choose attune spell
Put a talisman, staff or fire in your off hand depending on what spell you want to cast
choose the spell in the top active slot (press up to swap if necessary)
cast the spell with L1
Most if not all of the items that are used to cast spells have a skill on the item itself that you can use by pressing L2 while the item is equipped and active
That's it! You're using spells!
But let's say you wanted to cast more spells? Go out and grab some souls, and then slap some points into the attunement character attribute. You need 10 attunement to get one slot. Attunement also gives you some extra defense and resistances across the board.
