Darkstalkers 3 [PS1] - play as Oboro Bishamon
This is a play-through using Oboro in the PS1 version of Darkstalkers 3. Read on below for more information...
Oboro Bishamon is a hidden boss character in the game. He is a hidden playable character.
===== Additional Information =====
---- As mentioned above, Oboro has a different set of colour palettes to regular Bishamon.
---- In order to fight Oboro, you must meet a specific set of conditions before getting to the end of game and defeating the chosen character's boss (usually Jedah). If you've done it right, you'll get the extra boss fight against Oboro on Bishamon's alternative background.
---- His pre-fight intro is different to regular Bishamon's.
---- When playing as him in regular fights, his pre-fight intro is much faster than his 'boss intro' (when he is the hidden boss at the end).
---- Being a playable character, he has his own unique ending.
---- His winning screen dialogue is always "..........". Remind you of someone?
---- His winning screen music theme is his own and is different to regular Bishamon's.
---- He has his own unique BGM theme.
---- In-fight, he is still named as "Bishamon".
---- In the Result screen in Versus mode, he is actually called 'OBORO'.
---- He can also be known as Shin Bishamon. I even remember some people calling him "Turbo Bishamon".
---- The game is known as Vampire Savior EX Edition in Japan.
===== About Oboro =====
Oboro is basically Bishamon who has control of the evil within the Hannya armor that tried to possess him, which means that the armor isn't able to take over and control Bishamon.
Oboro is almost the "Shin Akuma" of Darkstalkers... both have the same premise - a regular version (Bishamon), and a more powerful version (Oboro Bishamon) that acts as the game's final hidden boss in Arcade mode if specific conditions are met. To Oboro's credit, he is actually a far more unique/different character to regular Bishamon than Shin Akuma is to regular Akuma.
Gameplay-wise, Oboro is a very good character to use, his ability to do basic chain combos is immense because of the sheer long range of his sword. Not only chain combos, but his basics have very good priority as well.
===== About PS1 Darkstalkers 3 =====
Due to the PS1's hardware limitations, a LOT of character animation frames had to be cut... if you're used to the Arcade/Saturn versions of the game, you'll definitely notice it. The game features all the characters from the Darkstalkers series. So yes, Phobos, Pyron and Donovan are in.
However despite the animation cuts, the PS1 version of Darkstalkers 3 is actually quite special, as it is basically a 'collection' of Vampire Savior, Vampire Savior 2 and Vampire Hunter 2 all rolled into one single game. If you unlock the Ex Options, you can get to select the system mode of the above three games... so for example if you select Vampire Hunter 2, you'll get the VH2 BGMS, endings and system (such as Pyron replacing Jedah as the game's main boss). It's good stuff and it's a good port of the arcade game.
