This is Deathroned, an upcoming fantasy rogue-lite FPS running on Unreal Engine 4 with X3DAudio HRTF [IRC_1037]. It follows in the vein of games like Ziggurat with fast-paced combat and varied magical attacks. The art assets seem to be entirely original and look fantastic for an itch.io title, especially the particle effects. Here's the problem, though: the gameplay loop is unsatisfying. Your attacks do not have much impact unless you use certain combinations and the AI is not threatening at all. The framerate is also poorly optimized. In a genre that has become oversaturated in the last few years, Deathroned does little to stand out in its current alpha state. Even the aesthetics seem a bit derivative of City of Brass. What's most baffling is that the developer seems to be targeting Playstation 4 with all the button prompts.
With time, Deathroned could possibly evolve into a really fascinating and unique shooter. In any case, it's the best free game I've played on itch.io so far. It's a shame the music is so loud you can't even hear the 3D sound effects.
