DECEPTIVE AFFECTION: THE DANGERS OF TOXIC RELATIONSHIPS
Toxic relationships often include deception.
Deceptive Affection is a strategic form of behavior that can result in days, months, weeks, and even years of being lied to.
Deceptive Affection may occur as a way for someone, even a family member, to manipulate you or a situation so that something can be maintained, gained, or escaped from.
The affection is not real and the so-called affection may actually be part of a deceptive series of events in a person's life.
Deceptive Affection
For example, lets say your mother has never approved of you or anything you have cared about or liked. You and your mother clearly have a very bad relationship and often bring out the worst in each other.
You decide to have a child and you are now a parent to a beautiful little girl. Because your mother has always wanted to be a grandparent, she may call you and "sweet-talk" you until you offer for her to visit with you to see the baby. The only reason she is showering you with love and affection is to see her grandchild.
