Demon's Souls (PS5) - Broken Sword Only - Part 1: Farming for the dang sword + first archstones
It was both insanely lucky and unlucky that it took so long to get the sword. It was unlucky because obviously, I was farming for the sword and it took way longer than it should have to get it. But it was lucky because the byproduct of that extra long farm was stocking up on a ton of healing and pine resin right off rip which made the brutal early game of this run much more manageable. Also those two dreglings having fire swords and dropping resin at such a high rate is a remake change, one of the only gameplay changes made by the remake. In the OG game those are normal dreglings and fire sword dreglings have different drops. In fact I think the other fire sword dreglings have their normal drop pool, it's just those two that have a unique drop pool. They drop resin at a much higher rate and they drop fire bombs at a high rate too, which they normally dont drop at all. I believe they made this change to make beating phalanx easier since it's pretty easy to run out of resin and fire bombs in the OG game and just be screwed.
First archstones are rough with such low damage relying on meager pine resin to deal my damage. I gotta stock up on souls for the BPR load up, so I can't really level up right now either, not that it would make much a difference, having a tad bit more stamina and HP could be nice, but it isn't anything game changing.
The real gameplay changes with the remake that I've noticed:
1) obviously the new armor sets, rings, and consumables all of which are added to new places that didn't used to have items
2) a couple new items on the ground that are just basic grasses. They are in the tutorial and 1-1, there are as far as I am aware no other items added anywhere else aside from the new armor/rings. These new items are a stack of cresent moon grass just before the first archstone warp in the tutorial and a late moon grass at the start of 1-1
3) Two of the dreglings outside of phalanx's boss arena were changed to fire sword variants and have a unique drop pool that is only fire bombs and pine resin both at extremely common rates, but they never drop both at once and rarely they drop nothing
4) the addition of starting gifts
