Pretty shit luck on the mundane gem drop, but I got it eventually. The only guaranteed mundane gems in the game are from lizards, one in shuvla and one in dragon's aerie, of those the shulva one is much more accessible, but still totally out of the question since you aren't beating the black gulch giants/rotten with only resin damage. I mean it's reasonably possible, the rotten is a simple enough boss that you could whittle him down, but it would probably take like 30 resins and a ton of patience, then you could use a poison resin on the giants and get into shulva. Ironically the hardest part is probably killing the lizard since idk if even with a resin if you could kill it before it escaped since it's got DLC scaled hp, you would get flynns ring too though, so that's nice. Anyways, I didn't feel like doing super long rotten and then lizard fuckery. So since the static mundane stones are of no help, that leaves renewable sources. There's four sources. Undead steelworkers, primal knights, gyrm warriors, and crow trading with smooth and silky stones. Primal knight only requires killing dragon rider and a branch (the one guarding an estus shard on the way to no mans wharf), so it's the earliest, but it's also far and above the least coinvent since it's a bulky hard hitting enemy with low drop rates and no good way to kill it, you'd have to use resins to kill him and then you'd have to farm resins if you ran out by doing the cliff drops at heide and that's a whole bunch of hell nah from me. Gyrm warriors are a decent choice, you can kill them via backstabs without resins or infusion pretty easily with the ladle because of the nutty way backstab damage is calculated in this silly game. They only require killing one boss, but it's a rather mid game boss, najka. It's certainly possible, especially with tail attack baiting strats, but it's less than ideal and would take quite some time and effort. Would also require like 20-30 resins and a ton of patience and effort, but it's the second best option. The best option however is undead steel workers. They kill themselves on poison making it the easiest farm and they only require killing one early game boss, unfortunately it's a very inconvenient boss, the skeleton lords. Still far and above the best option and it's the one I decided on. Skeleton lords are one of the only a couple times in the run I used life gems and one of only two bosses I used lifegems on (other being ganksquad, I might be forgetting a third one, idk, I think it was just those two). They suck, but they're more reasonable then the alternatives. Also I forgot to swap out of CoC for the flexile sentry (needed it for the farming).
